Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston Announce Their Engagement

America's most famous teenage mother Bristol Palin announced through media tabloids that she's engaged to the father of her baby, Levi Johnston. CNN reports that the 19-year-old informed the media of her engagement without the approval of her mother. How's that for a happy family?

The onetime vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin was no fan of her grandson's father after the dramatic child custody battle between the teens, but she stated on CNN that she will accept Bristol's decision.

Bristol believes in redemption and forgiveness to a degree most of us struggle to put in practice in our daily lives," Sarah Palin said in a statement. "We pray that, as a couple, Bristol and Levi's relationship matures into one that will allow Tripp to grow up graced with two loving parents in his life."

So is Levi Johnston really back in love with the former vice presidential candidate's daughter? Or did he propose the marriage so that he could get out of paying the thousands of dollars a month in child support and keep custody of his son? This question has been on the minds of many family law attorneys. As we reported in an earlier blog post, Levi Johnston was ordered earlier this year to pay more than $21,000 in back child support payments, and another $1,750 in monthly support payments. Marriage would be clever way for the 20-year-old father to get out of such an obligation.

Those who have been following the relationship Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston are probably aware that they've been engaged before. The two broke off their engagement in March 2009, just a few months after their son Tripp was born. We'll see if their relationship lasts this time around.
