Texas Battle Over Child Support Payments

| No TrackBacks

Here's a child support story that most Texas mothers would get scared over. KTSM reports that one woman from Socorro, Texas received a letter in the mail from the Texas Attorney General's office saying that the Office of the Attorney General overpaid her more than $500 over the past year, and that they now want that money back.

OAG stated that if the mother, Elisa Benitez, didn't pay the money in 30 days, then her paychecks would be cut in half, according to KTSM.

However, Ms. Benitez insists that the payments are the other way around and that OAG actually owes her money.

"My bank statements showed that I wasn't receiving the money they said they were sending me. They said they were sending me a 100 dollars, my bank only received 30," she told KTSM.

Ms. Benitez says that she and her ex-husband originally hired the Texas Attorney General's office to work out the child support payments because they thought it would make things easier, but now she says that OAG has only caused complications.

Ms. Benitez says that she was ready to quit their service, but that OAG will not let her get rid of the service unless she gets back together with her ex-husband. It seems unlikely that option will happen.

In the meantime, Ms. Benitez has to figure out what to do in order to clear herself. It's unclear whether or not she will get a Texas family law attorney to represent her. Her story may discourage other parents from using OAG's child support services.
