The parents of actress Lindsay Lohan have hit the media spotlight again, only this time it's over the issue of child support for their two younger children, Ali and Cody Lohan.

Long Island Press reports that Dina and Michael Lohan were in Nassau County Family Court on Long Island earlier this week, where Dina Lohan claims that her ex-husband was late on child support payments. The two parties met for a closed-door session.

Dina Lohan told New York Daily News after the closed door meeting that it has been almost a year without child support.

"I just want him to do the right thing. I just want him to take care of his kids," Dina Lohan said after the meeting. "This isn't about us. It's about his children."

Michael Lohan's family law attorney, John Pedranghelu, says that the father plans to pay the money that he owes.

"He's promised to do so," the attorney told New York Daily News. "We've heard that before. Hopefully he'll be true to his word and the parties can go forward. Nobody wants to be here but he has a duty and obligation to support his children and that's why we're here."

FindLaw reports that nearly half of all marriages end in divorce and almost one-fourth of all children are born to unmarried parents. Around the country, there are many couples dealing with child support just like the Lohans. You can learn more about Texas-specific child support information on FindLaw.

Dina and Michael Lohan's 2007 divorce gained a lot of media attention when the two split apart. They legally separated in December 2005, and finalized divorce proceedings in 2007, when Lindsay Lohan was 21 years old. Lindsay has three siblings, according to the actress' biography on the Internet Movie Database, where the youngest children are ages 16 and 13.
