While Ashton Kutcher has allegedly moved on from his marriage with Demi Moore, TMZ reports that there has been no real move towards a divorce.
At least, no real legal move.
The couple split a year ago. Yet despite reports of the couple haggling over finances, there are still no reports of a divorce filing.
What's going on?
Sources close to the couple have told TMZ that neither party has given any indication to their lawyers about filing for a divorce.
Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore married in 2005 and separated last November, after rumors arose that Kutcher was partying it up in San Diego with a 20-something girl at a club. Now, he's reportedly been seen cuddling up with his former "That 70s Show" co-star, Mila Kunis.
Divorce filings aren't the first step in a divorce. In fact, when a couple has considerable wealth, it may be wise not to rush into a divorce, as the numbers and details need to be worked out.
It's important for each party to do a realistic assessment of their finances, prior to filing for a divorce. Often, once divorce papers are filed, the clock starts ticking and financial disclosures can end up being rushed. This can cause problems when negotiating alimony, child support and other financial issues.
It's hard to say why the couple is taking so long to legally finalize their split. Rumors of their financial feud have been dispelled, according to TMZ. With his new starring role on the popular sitcom "Two and a Half Men," Kutcher is currently one of the highest paid actors in television.
If money isn't the issue and love isn't the issue (after all, one party has moved on in a very public way), then what is it?
