Troy Aikman Divorce from Rhonda Aikman Final

Troy Aikman's divorce from Rhonda Aikman is complete and has been since April, reports TMZ.

Troy Aikman's divorce was first revealed back in January; but the decree of divorce was not finalized until a few months later.

A few months before the separation, Troy and Rhonda had divided their assets, reports TMZ. Rhonda apparently gave up her stake in a mansion in Dallas, to later purchase another home in the city for around $1.5 million.

The Aikmans have three children: two daughters from Troy and Rhonda together, and one daughter from Rhonda's previous marriage, reported KDFW Fox 4 Dallas at the time the couple separated.

While it is unclear whether or not the couple had a prenuptial agreement, seeing the trajectory of their divorce is instructive for those people that are planning to get divorced.

The first step after the emotional decision has been made is to take care of the arrangements regarding children and then to sort out the financial matters.

Most child custody arrangements include a custody and visitation schedule that outlines the time, place, and manner any exchange is to take place. The actual child custody exchange or "swap" occurs each time a child goes from the physical custody of one parent to the other. Visitation schedules can become acrimonious; but with planning and a bit of compromise, they don't have to be.

As for the financial elements of a divorce, they include resolving any question of alimony, as well as child support payments, and disposition of other marital property. As the Aikman divorce shows, the houses are usually one of the biggest or most important part of marital property.
