It seems as though some mothers will do anything possible to be with their children, even if it means violating a court order. Rocktown Weekly reports that 43-year-old Tammy Renee Lucas was arrested last Friday by officers with the Texas Rangers on charges related to the abduction of her own son.
She is now being held at the Liberty County Jail, but authorities in Rockingham County, Virginia say that she has been wanted in Virginia for almost 10 years. A Rockingham County judge ordered that Ms. Lucas turn custody of her then-7-year-old son over to the boy's father on Aug. 1, 2000, but she ended up taking her child and escaping to Cleveland, Texas, which is just outside the city of Houston.
The child named Dalton Lucas is now 16 years old and had been listed as missing; because he was supposed to be in custody with his father. Dalton was placed into custody with Child Protective Services after his mother's arrest. The father, James Lucas, has since traveled to Houston to see his son.
Child custody cases can be very complicated, even for a Houston family law attorney. While a court decision regarding child custody is not always fair, a judge is supposed to determine a solution that is in the best interest of the child. In the case of Tammy Lucas, a Texas man had contacted investigators with the Page County Sheriff's Office in Virgina to say he believed he knew the whereabouts of Tammy and Dalton Lucas. From there, authorities were able to pass on the information to Texas law enforcers and make an arrest.
