Dr. Janice Iston, the ex-wife of heavyweight titlist Evander Holyfield, recently filed a child support lawsuit against her ex-husband in Harris County District Court, located in Houston. According to Boxing Scene, Dr. Iston is now seeking to collect $280,000 in past-due child support along with interest.
The couple went through a messy divorce back in 2000; but their son Elijah Jedidiah Holyfield now seems to be the main subject of debate. Dr. Iston alleges that she needs more money from her ex-husband to properly take care of the child.
However, information reported on Boxing Scene indicates that a Houston family law attorney may have difficulty proving that Dr. Iston is really in need of more support when it comes to taking care of her child Elijah.
An anonymous source who is said to be close to the Holyfield family was quoted on Boxing Scene as saying, "Evander paid for everything for her...her house, Elijah - and she was not a spendthrift. Every day was a shopping spree and every day was a day at the mall. I know that she used the credit card...so often that she had to call the credit card company to get a new card because it was literally worn out."
FindLaw states that the amount of child support a parent usually receives is based on the parents' incomes, living expenses, and the needs of the children. For more information about child support guidelines, you can contact a Houston family law attorney or visit our Related Resources section.
